It is the season for backyard barbecues and get together, these barbecue asian drumsticks have a great sweet, sticky and peppery flavor that will have people coming back for more. The drumsticks are tossed with chinese five spice then covered with a great asian-inspired barbecue sauce that has oyster sauce, ginger, chili paste rice vinegar and sesame oil. these are a perfect addition to any party. Check out the recipe below in post.
In a bowl, combine the drumsticks, five spice powder and vegetable oil. Arrange the chicken drumsticks on a foil lined pan or baking rack on a sheet pan. Season with salt and pepper. Cook for 30 minutes or until chicken has reached 165 internally. Turn the drumsticks over half way.
In a blender or food processor, add the oyster sauce, chili paste, honey, vinegar, chicken stock, garlic, ginger and sesame oil. Puree until smooth.
Transfer to a sauce pan and bring to simmer and reduce until slightly thickened, about 5 minutes.
Once chicken is finished cooking. Toss the chicken and sauce in a clean bowl until completely coated. Preheat the oven to broiler. Place chicken back on the sheet pan and cook under the broiler. Brushing the excess sauce every minute or so and turning over each time you brush the drumsticks, until the glaze is sticky about 4- 5 minutes. Sprinkle with sesame seeds and serve warm.
