One of the easiest meals to prepare for a family or large gathering is a simple pasta dish. Pasta dishes are easy and very inexpensive to prepare and goes a long way. This Sausage and mushroom penne gratin is a great substitute for the standard pasta bake. A galette is a term in french cuisine for a flat cake or pie that is normally filled with fruit or a savory filling. As of right now, in the heat of the summer is the prime time for ripe fresh peaches and lucky for me its my favorite fruit. The sweet and tender peaches and the thin flaky pie crust is a perfect summer dessert with a side of vanilla ice cream. In a biscuit, there are a few things you look for in one: A soft flaky texture that is moist, tender and rich in a buttery flavor. These buttermilk potato biscuits have a great savory flavor with the light, flaky texture and are rich which is a great biscuit. The potato flakes have starches that cut into the gluten structure which help keep them tender and light without having the extra water you would have in fresh potatoes. Frittata is a great choice if you are cooking breakfast or brunch for a larger group. Its like a omelet with all of the fillings, but you don't have to deal with perfectly executed flipping. These muffin tin frittatas are great since each is pre-portioned to a perfect size and can be customized to each persons preferences. The fillings choices are endless, I prefer the classic Western/Denver-Style filling of green pepper, onion, cheese and ham.
When you hear about rhubarb in the summer, the first thing that comes to mind is the classic strawberry rhubarb pie. That is a classic summer pie and great dessert but raspberry and rhubarb is an even better combination as the two flavors mend together perfectly. Both have pretty equal tart to sweetness ratios that work great. These raspberry rhubarb bars have the great flavor of both with a crisp cookie crust on the bottom and a sweet pecan crumb on the top make it a perfect little dessert square. JoJo potatoes are seasoned potato wedges that a coated in a seasoning and breaded. JoJo potatoes are a grocery store deli classic here in the Midwest and the rest of the western US and Canada and is tend to be cooked along side of fried chicken. This recipe is done in a oven vs the traditional frying method or broster, but still come out soft and tender inside with a crisp flavorful coating on the outside. Morning glory muffins are the classic fruit cakes long lost cousin, however ended up much better tasting and enjoyable to eat. However do not let that scare you away so quick. Morning glory muffins are probably one of those muffins your grandmother would make when you were a little kid and still be considered timeless and are still very enjoyable today. Morning glory muffins are loaded with all sorts of fruits and vegetables, from carrots to apples, pineapple to raisins to name a few. The muffins are very savory but does have sweetness and are moist, especially when eaten warm. Burritos are one of the most recognizable Mexican-style food. Burritos are found frozen in a gas station to award winning restaurants. The filling is normally rice with some form of protein, beef or beans being the most common. A wet burrito is a burrito that is covered in a chili based gravy that is similar to enchilada sauce but thicker and typically wrapped in a flour tortilla instead of corn which enchiladas are made with.
