Here is Minnesota, the whole summer is ended by one of the largest state fairs in the county. The Minnesota state fair brings millions of people yearly (the largest single day is in the 270,000 people). Every year there is new and unique dishes that show up. For me, my favorite is the classic corn dog. The sweet corn breading around the hot dog is the perfect summer snack. Sadly this year it was cancelled due to the current situations going on so i had to make myself my own corn dogs. This recipe is very close to what you would get at the state fair. The preparation is simple and takes on a few minutes to make from start to finish. The honey give the corn breading a golden brown color and a perfect level of sweetness. Check out the recipe below.
As when it comes to steak, I prefer the steak well seasoned in placed of having steak sauce all over the steak. However with this sweet and spicy hoisin sauce, the sweet and spicy flavor is perfect with the grilled beef. The sauce is a mix between different regions around the world. It is very high in asian flavors with the soy and hoisin sauce and the ginger. With the butter stirred in at the finish is very french inspired adding much richness making this sauce delicious over the sliced steak.
If you are looking for a great recipe to use up those summer squash, this summer squash and sausage pasta skillet is the perfect recipe to use. The pasta is cooked directly in the sauce so the pasta is filled with all of the flavors from the sausage and tomatoes. Then is topped with creamy parmesan cheese and bright bold flavors of the freshly cut basil. It is the complete one dish meal from start to finish so clean up is a breeze and preparation and cooking takes less than 30 minutes. The squash can easily replaced with zucchini with no changes to the recipe.
When i think of summer, one of the first things I think about is ripe peaches. Peaches have been one my favorites since I was a young guy. In these fresh peach muffins, the muffins come out moist and delicious! The muffins are packed with great peach flavors spiced with cinnamon. The crumble topping adds another layer of sweetness and crunch to the tender muffins. Your family will love these!!
Looking for a great easy dessert on these warm summer nights. These chocolate dipped frozen banana bites are the perfect kid-friendly treat. when the bananas are frozen they become very sweet making it a great alternative for the person with a major sweet tooth. The toppings are endless with your favorite candy bars, nuts, coconut, cookies and cereals making each person in your family have their own special treat.
The classic breaded pork chops is a dinner pretty much everyone has. The problem is they tend to be dry, tough and flavorless. In these honey mustard breaded pork chops, the pork chops are pounded thinner tenderizing them. After that the pork is dredged in a honey and mustard egg wash then coated in bread crumbs, then fried to a golden brown. The pork chops comes out tender and juicy and the coating is flavorful and crispy.
These greek meatball sandwiches have the flavors of the classic gyro sandwiches and are simple to make at home. The meatball are made with simple ingredients and are baked in the oven so the preparation is quick and the cooking is completely hands off. The meatballs are wrapped in a pita with tomato and lettuce then drizzled with tzatziki sauce. It is a perfect quick weekday dinner that anyone can make.
When it comes to cookies, there is two sides you can be on, the soft and chewy or then thin and crispy side. Me personally, I love the thicker and soft cookies that are chewy. These old-fashioned oatmeal chocolate chip cookies come out chewy and stay chewy for days after you make them. The cookies are packed with chocolate chips and rolled oats (doesn't that make these healthy). The cookies are extremely simple to prepare and make in minutes. I am not a huge sweets person, but I love these cookies!!
During the heat of the summer, I always lean to light dinners that have a bit of a kick of heat and packed with light fresh flavor. Due to the heat of the past few weeks, my garden was packed with fresh red tomatoes ready to jump into a delicious meal. This pan-seared shrimp with tomatoes and avocados is the perfect dish for those warm night. The chili give it a great smoky flavor along with a slight kick of heat and the tender shrimp tossed with the soft ripe tomatoes is perfect meal. This is a must try meal for everyone, as what my wife tells me.
