When it comes with candy, my favorite has to be gummy bears. They are very simple candy to make and most packaged ones you can buy are packed with refined sugars and corn syrups. In these fun and easy gummy bears, they sweetness comes from regular granulated sugar or natural honey which makes them slightly healthier and flavors come from your favorite fruit juice. The gummy bear molds are relatively inexpensive online or you can use shallow dishes and cut them into shapes to cut the costs if you choose.
In a pan, bring the juice, gelatin and sugar/honey to a simmer but not a boil. The gelatin and sugar should be dissolved and the liquid should have a glassy appearance. If you choose, you can add different food coloring to make it different colors, I know some kids like to. The best kinds of juices to get good bold coloring is grape, orange or pomegranate juice.
Pour into molds and let rest on the counter for 5 minutes. Place in the freezer for 10-15 minutes (for easy transport, place the silicone mold on a cookie sheet). The gummy bear molds can be found at hobby/cooking stores or online relatively inexpensive. I got a pack of 4 for $5-6 online.
If you want to, you can use shallow dish and fill them with about 1/2" of the gummy bear mixture and place in the freezer for 10-15 minutes. When set, use a knife around the edges and use small cookie cutters or a knife to cut into shapes or squares.
Remove all gummies from the molds or dishes and place on a sheet of parchment paper and let firm up for an additional 45 minutes.
Start enjoying it if you haven't already not resisted. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for freshness.
